Two Kashmiris suspected to be among attackers

Government had intelligence inputs about militant movement, says source; attackers used helmet cameras to shoot video footage; tourists herded into several groups, men singled out by religion, shot dead at close range

The two Kashmiri militants were identified as Adil Guri of Anantnag and Ahsan from Pulwama district in south Kashmir. Both went to Pakistan in 2018. “The two infiltrated recently with three or four other Pakistani men. We had certain inputs about their movement,” the government source said.

Another official said that the terrorists were wearing helmet-mounted cameras using which they shot video footage of the attack.

The location of the attack was chosen as it lacks road connectivity and can only be accessed on foot or pony, the official said. After the attack, the terrorists fled into the upper reaches of the Baisaran forest range, which connects with a number of smaller valleys up to the Warwan valley in Kishtwar district. Security forces used choppers and special commandos to track the militants on Wednesday.
